April 01, 2024

Seyed Alireza Seyedi, a PhD student in Land-Use Planning, Management, and Design and a member of Architectural Humanities and Urbanism Lab (AHU), presented his research titled “Building Under Shadow of the Oil: Formation and Development of Oil Company Towns in Southwestern Iran” at the 18th AESOP YOUNG ACADEMICS CONFERENCE held in Politecnico di Milano 19-22 March 2024. The conference theme was Bridging Gaps: Urban Planning for Coexistence, and it contains five tracks, which Alireza presented his research in Track 5, Towards Coexistence: Contested Social & Spatial Landscapes in Transformation. This research studied the history of oil in Iran and oil-related heritage in southwest Iran between 1901 and 1951, focusing on the classification of oil-related heritage and analysis of spatial aspects of oil company towns. This annual conference is considered a significant gathering of young architectural academics worldwide and has notable limitations. It is necessary to mention that Alireza was also awarded one of the ten AESOP travel bursaries. It should be noted that Dr. Saeid Khaghani, Dr. Rouhollah Mojtahedzadeh, and Dr. Asma Mehan were coauthors of this research and were directly involved in it.
