RESEARCH FEATURE: Blue Infrastructure: An Exploration of Oceanic Networks and Urban-Industrial-Energy Interactions in the Gulf of Mexico.

October 04, 2023

In our recent contribution to ‘Sustainability' Q1 journal, Volume 15, titled "Blue Infrastructures: An Exploration of Oceanic Networks and Urban–Industrial–Energy Interactions in the Gulf of Mexico," Dr. Asma Mehan and Zachary S. Casey explored the nexus between marine environments and urban infrastructures.

While the paper sheds light on the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway’s (GIWW) role and the ecological intricacies of practices like dredging, it's imperative to critically assess the extent to which the Gulf’s offshore structures can be sustainably transformed into marine habitats.

While the Gulf of Mexico serves as an intriguing case study, the findings might benefit from comparisons with other marine contexts to enhance their general applicability.
