RESEARCH FEATURE: Texas-Oklahoma Iranian Studies Workshop

28-29 July, 2023

Join us for the Texas-Oklahoma Iranian Studies Workshop on July 28 and 29 at The University of Texas at Austin. This event assembles scholars from Texas and Oklahoma to discuss and explore Iranian history, culture, and politics.

Day 1 (July 28, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:20 p.m.) will examine Iran in Regional Contexts, Society in Pahlavi Iran, and the notion of Public Space.

Dr Asma Mehan will be presenting at 16:10 on the topic of her newly published monograph "Tehran: From Sacred to Radical," an examination of the socio-spatial transformation and public spaces in Tehran.

Day 2 (July 29, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:50 a.m.) will focus on the Global Circulation of Ideas, with presentations illuminating the role of Iranians in global environmental movements, the international influence of Meher Baba, and the multifaceted dynamics at play within the Iranian diaspora.

Special thanks to Dr Mikiya Koyagi and the organizers at The University of Texas at Austin: Center for Middle Eastern Studies, the Department of Asian Studies, the Department of Religious Studies, and the Department of History.
